 Seasonal Design DIY:

Getting Ready for Thanksgiving Dinner

There is something about fall – I don’t know if it’s the transition of spending more time indoors again, the changing colors all around us, the dropping of temperature, or pumpkin spiced everything, but it sure feels good switching into a new season.

Of course, with the arrival of fall means Thanksgiving is upon us (at least in Canada) and I look forward to hosting a gathering of friends and family. Jumping into having people in our homes again, I hope I haven't forgotten how to make it special. We thought it would be fun to give a few simple tips on how to set a table for your fall gathering that elevates your everyday décor and adds just the right seasonal touch.

1. Linens

Plaid is the fabric of the season. No need to purchase new, it’s likely you have a blanket scarf or throw that is in plaid.

2. A Centerpiece

Cut branches from outside place in a vase – fall foliage, voila!
Layer different height candlesticks with seasonal hued candles down the length of the table.
Use a vintage wooden dough bowl and fill with fall favorites: gourds, acorns, apples, sprigs of goldenrod, berries.

3. Dinnerware

Elevate your everyday white dinnerware with a fall hued cloth napkin, and mini pumpkin/artichoke/pear/apple – whichever suits your autumnal vibe.

4. Extras

Throw a faux fur throw on a long wooden bench to cozy up the hard surface.

It doesn't have to be a fake turkey, or a "give thanks" sign to show that you are celebrating. Enjoy what you have around you, after all, fall is synonymous with the harvest.
