Restore (something old) to a good state; Bringing something back to life.
We get asked a lot of questions on social media for tips on renovating.
As well, since COVID we noticed a large increase in home renovation inquiries at our office we thought we would put together some of our best tips for renovating.
Due to the increased time we have spent in our homes over the last year people are noticing the things they don’t like or how their space doesn’t function for their needs.
There are many reasons we look to renovate: functional space, update style, increase living space, and lifestyle changes to name a few.
We wanted to offer some of our best tips to help you get started!
SCHEDULE YOUR SUPPLIES
If you are on the verge of a renovation, order your finishes and materials (ie. plumbing fixtures, tile, lighting) as early as you can because it’s better for your supplies to be sitting around than your contractors. Not to mention due to Covid, shipping times have been bonkers and we have seen people waiting double the amount of time to receive products.
TAKE TIME TO PLAN
Start with a good plan! Analyze your immediate and future needs. What does life look like now and again in 5-10 years. Spend the time to get the design/layout right – we highly recommend hiring a designer. A designer will guide you through the process as there is so many more decisions than you can anticipate and it will help save time and money in the end.
BUDGET- WHERE TO SAVE OR SPLURGE
Renovation costs can get out of hand really fast, so figure out where the most important spaces are for you.
What key areas or features in your home are you willing to spend more, and which are you willing to save on? For example plumbing fixtures is a great example of an area that is easy to get out of hand and spend lots or less depending on just the finish. Unpolished brass is beautiful but chrome is cheaper.
Make a list ahead to know what items are non-negotiables and which you are willing to adjust for the sake of budget.

Su Casa Interior Paint Collections
Lean on Our Expertise the Next Time You Paint Your Home Interiors.
When picking out paint colours there are many things to consider – undertones, warm, cool, bright, muted – not all colours of paint are created equal. It can be overwhelming to choose from so many shades.
Face it, colour choices are endless and even when the “best (fill in the blank colour)” is narrowed down and highlighted all over your Pinterest board there are still so many to choose from.
We’ve curated some great combinations of neutral paint colours that complement each other and would work for any room in your home. You can purchase the Su Casa curated colour plans from our website with extensive tips on what paint finish and quality we recommend from your local paint store.
At Su Casa we recognize there is a gap between our products and services available to you. We are growing beyond a custom home design firm, and we know there are people who are not looking to build but rather make home improvements.
We want to know how we can provide you access to great design so you can love where you live.

Sitting on the cusp of summer as I write this, and I am loving the rising temperatures. I love to anticipate the possibilities summer brings with family adventures whether we are looking for a beach, sitting out late by the fire, or thrifting in our favourite little spots. I am looking forward to enjoying our backyard after all the work we have put into it so far this year.
Hanging around the fire and playing in the yard with my kids are going to be on the top of my summer to-do list. And...we decided to "take the plunge" (pun fully intended) to put in a pool -- hoping we will get a chance to enjoy that by the end of the summer too! Can't wait to show you more on our latest plans for that exciting backyard feature.
I find things look different when the sun shines longer in the day, and I appreciate seeing things in a new light. The anticipation of a new season with fresh possibilities and new perspectives is just what we all need.
What are your plans this summer – how do you anticipate the season so many of us long for through the cold months?
