A Tired Traditional Home Gets a
Much Needed Facelift

This client took advantage of a COVID-19 lockdown

to totally transform their home. The results are incredible!

As promised in last month’s newsletter a before & after reveal…see this incredible exterior transformation of a tired looking 1981 rancher.

Working together with the homeowner we were able to come up with a plan to update the exterior of their home. We recommended redistributing the spacing and number of columns across the front covered entry to help open up the space visually.

We updated the trim and fascia with white material to match – with the exception of the top gable edge. We recommended using a black trim along the roof line to bring definition to that element of the home.

We suggested, if their budget allowed, to do a full glazing, steel door with side lights to take their renovation over the top! This would allow to keep most of the home’s traditional elements by providing a beautiful contemporary feature that will set their home apart. The clients opted for a black painted door, and we were extremely happy with how the final look of the home turned out . We originally suggested, as a cost-effective option, to paint the existing brick on the house to soften the overall look. However, our client wanted to get rid of the brick altogether and opted for a cedar shake siding – we always love the idea of cedar shake! Thumbs up to our client for this suggestion!

2. Virtual Design Services

A Visual Roadmap for your Renovation Before you Begin.

Our Virtual Design is an opportunity to reimagine the exterior of your house. It can show you the potential your existing house has to update its look to a style you desire and reflects current trends. Using a photo of your home’s front exterior submitted by you we help dream up a facelift for your home. Andy collaborates with his design team to completely transform the look. We provide you with a photo rendering and a material specification package with this service.

Areas that can be adjusted: paint colours, siding material choices and locations, lighting, door styles, cosmetic window changes

Areas not included: architectural or structural changes (ie. roof additions, patios, structure, or anything that enlarges or changes the size of the home.

3. Architectural Consultation

A One-on-One Design Experience.

Our Architectural Collaboration service allows clients to book up to 10 hours of design time with Andy and the design team to receive insight, direction, and design tips for the exterior of their home.

This is a more thorough service and upgrade from our virtual design, which will include exterior architectural and cosmetic changes. The client will receive a hand sketched drawing showing the recommended changes to the home (this is not a photo rendering).

4. Renovation Design Package

We offer a full-service package for renovations that includes exterior and interior layout changes working with you to create a space that is custom to you and your needs. This service is ideal for substantial renovations that will require structural considerations, drawings, and detailed finishes. With this package our clients receive completed city permit drawings that are ready for construction.

A Note From Andy

Summer is in full swing, and I am enjoying the time I am spending with my family and lots of time at home.

We are living in full renovation mode now! It’s actually really exciting to watch the transformations happen each day as we get another step closer to completion. However, completion still seems so far away at this point but what keeps me motivated through all the unsettled living that comes with a renovation is the hopes and dreams we have for this newly acquired and designed space in our home. I know that it won’t always be a mess and that soon things will start to look more like “home” and less like a construction site.
